ECR 101: Introduction to Managing Environmental Conflict - 2 days
Introduces the field of ECR and the process of assessing environmental disputes. The course develops awareness of conflict management including: What is ECR, how and when to use it, central concepts of Interest-Based problem-solving, essential communication skills, and systematic evaluation of environmental conflict situations for appropriate use of ECR.

NEGOTIATION 101: Negotiating Environmental Issues - 2 days
NEGOTIATION 101 examines how to improve the negotiation of environmental issues by focusing parties on their underlying interests (needs) and jointly developing solutions, an approach known as Interest-Based Negotiation (IBN). These concepts underlie all of the Institute trainings. This course develops a thorough grounding in the principles and application of IBN in the context of environmental conflicts. Course participants practice communication essentials, listening skills, and IBN in realistic scenarios based on actual environmental conflicts. $500/participant

ECR & NEGOTIATION 201: Facilitation Fundamentals - 2 days
Prepare for role as an in-house agency facilitator in connection with an environmental dispute. Requires experience with environmental conflict situations and skill in organizing. Practice techniques to plan and convene a meeting and manage complexities of group dynamics and logistics. PREREQUISITE: ECR 101

GTG 201: Government-to-Government - Laying the Groundwork for Effective Government-to-Government Consultation - 3 days
Develop awareness of key concepts of government-to-government consultation and principles for building trust between sovereigns; learn different ways to manage information, communication, decision-making, roles and responsibilities. Deepen appreciation for tribal preferences, the meaning of cultural and sacred sites; and of how historic events and federal Indian policies have shaped government-to-government relationships. PREREQUISITES: ECR 101

ECR 301: Collaboration Skills - 3 days
Examines knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors of individual collaborators and organizational and team leadership supporting collaborative efforts. Goals of this course include: development of essential skills in communication, collaboration, negotiation, and conflict management for environmental and natural resource managers. PREREQUISITES: ECR 101

ECR 401: Advanced Management of Environmental Issues - 2 days
Provides a practicum for high level managers to explore best practices in ECR, triage complex environmental disputes, create constructive atmosphere and dialogue, champion teams, and enable solutions. Use a scenario-based practice opportunity to analyze complex environmental disputes and formulate a plan of action for dealing with both immediate and longer term needs. PREREQUISITES: All lower level ECR courses or equivalent training

ECR 501: Advanced - Conflict Resolution for Environmental Disputes - 2 days
Provides a practicum for high level managers to explore: advanced communication, facilitation and mediation skills, difficult conversations, dealing with an angry public, value-driven issues, understanding conflict and personality styles, and getting past difficult challenges. PREREQUISITES: All lower level ECR courses or equivalent training

NEGOTIATION 301: Advanced Multi-Party Negotiation of Environmental Disputes - 2.5 days
Builds awareness and skill in dealing with complex, multi-party negotiations that require systematic and rigorous planning and increases the potential for consensus decision-making and sustainable results. Participants in this course apply principles of interest-based negotiation, self-awareness and group dynamics to complex multi-party negotiations to resolve environmental disputes and maximize sustainable solutions. Participants also assess their current capacity in communication, relationship building and conflict style. PREREQUISITES: ECR 101 & NEGOTIATION 101, or equivalent training
